Sleep Great for Life

Sleep Great for Life now available in paperback

Every night millions of people throughout the country suffer with some type of sleep disorder. It may be difficulty falling asleep, waking up in the middle of night with the inability to resume sleeping, restless sleep in general, or a combination of these difficulties.

Sleep deprivation can spiral out of a control, lasting for months or years while wreaking havoc on a person’s overall well-being. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Author Rich Nilsen has written a new book, Sleep Great for Life, which offers 14 critical steps for proper sleep hygiene, before laying the foundation for the heart and soul of the book: the easy-to-apply Sleep Great method. The book had previously only been available in e-book formats but is now available in paperback for the first time.

“I suffered with debilitating insomnia and it was wrecking my life,” explained Nilsen. “It pains me to see anyone else suffering with a sleep disorder because I know how difficult it can be, how it can affect one’s personal and work life, and the depression it can cause. Insomnia is a vastly underrated health problem.”

Sleep surveys indicate that fifty-eight percent of adults in the U.S. experience symptoms of insomnia a few nights a week or more.  The impact of poor sleep results in numerous health and personal issues, including depression, increased blood pressure, irritability, difficulty concentrating, lack of sexual desire, just to name a few.

One of the goals of the Sleep Great method is to teach readers that they do not have to rely on sleeping pills to get a good night’s sleep on a regular basis.

“Despite what the pharmaceutical companies would have you believe, the truth is that you can’t buy a good night’s sleep,” explained Nilsen. “The Sleep Great method works extremely well, without the need of any drugs, and readers can begin to apply the concepts the first day they dive into the book.”

Nilsen empowers readers to take back their nights and sleep time by teaching them:

  • To fix any of the missing 14 sleep hygiene steps in their life
  • How to get off all prescription or over-the-counter sleep aids
  • To spot stress factors that bring about insomnia
  • To understand how to lay a proper sleep foundation for life
  • How to properly attack their sleep issue and overcome it once and for all

“I read this book a while back, but wanted to give it a chance to see how well it really worked before reviewing. As a family man that has a full-time job and freelances from home nightly, good sleep has always been an issue. I would go to bed exhausted from the day, but so wired I couldn’t keep my eyes shut. These techniques to achieve a restful night’s sleep really delivered! The concepts and plans are presented clearly without a lot of unnecessary filler making it a quick read. Also, knowing that the author had gone through some of my same sleep issues made it easy to relate with. Great book for a great night’s sleep.” — Donald Shofner, Lexington KY

Surviving the Unthinkable as a Father and Husband

by Arlen Roth,
Gillian Mackenzie Roth, my darling late daughter, was born Dec. 22nd, 1983. As you parents know, when a child is born, and you see that face, you can never imagine that the universe could ever be without them. She was the most extraordinary girl in the world. She had the most amazing childhood, filled with family, music, art, creativity and of course love. When she was born, I was born, so as you can imagine, I literally died when I lost her. No one can ever lose a child, especially like her. She had a wonderful blossoming career as an actress and a guitarist, and had been doing commercials, etc. from the age of 11 till she died at 14. It was on the way back from an audition in NYC when their car was involved in an accident and Gillian and my wife, Deborah were both killed.

The tragedy came only two days after “Gillie” had recorded the theme song for her new exciting Nickleodeon show, “The Gunks”, a show about a girl rock band that was loosely based on The Monkees. Gillie was so happy, I remember her leaving the studio, and punching the sky with glee! She was so proud of her guitar playing, but was particularly happy with how they used her singing voice as the main one on the theme song!

The devastation caused by such a tragedy is beyond the imagination of anyone, except those who have unfortunately also gone through such a loss. One can never truly “heal” from having your 14 year-old daughter and wife of 17 years ripped away from you in a blink of an eye. The only thing I could do, and what I HAD to do, was go on for my daughter, LexieRoth, who’s also a singer, songwriter and guitarist in her own right.

It was many months before I picked up a guitar again after the accident in 1998, and even then it had to almost be forced upon me. Lexie eventually started writing a lot of songs and several dealing with the tragedy, which led to her first album, “One Long Blink,” and which is also reflected in some of the songs in her current release, “Lexie Roth.” It took me 3 years before I could go into the studio again, and all I could do was make a deeply personal, all-solo acoustic alum called “Drive it Home.” This album featured many songs made up right on the spot; a kind of “emotional, musical photography of notes” that occured simply as I felt them. Being the kind of player who always “shoots from the hip” anyway, this was just a further and deeper statement of who I was, who I am, and especially who I was at that very moment of raw, musical emotion.

There have been even 4 more albums since then, but my latest, “All Tricked Out!,” the fifth since the tragedy, is a kind of ripping off of the shirt and stating that “I’m really BACK!” sort of effort. Sure there is still tons of emotion to hear and experience, but there is no hesitation to be a bit playful, to show some humor, to show that I’ve musically “moved forward” in not only my playing, but also my life.

For the last 14 years since the accident, it felt as if literally NO time had passed. NOW, it at least feels like time, albeit too quickly now, has started to move forward again, through the time and notes in my music, as well as watching the time and life move forward through my surviving daughter, Lexie. I hope folks enjoy this record, and through the notes I play and sing, hear and feel the indescribable emotions I can’t help but convey!”

Your Dearest Dream is Coming True

(reprinted with permission of CommCreative Unified Marketing)

by Myles Bristowe

You get to make your own choices, and you get to invest your time into whatever you decide is most dear to you. So, I ask again, what is your dearest dream??

Today’s Marketing Cookie says that your dearest dream is coming true. Don’t believe me? I’m not making this stuff up. It says it right there in black and white. So, I have to ask, what is your dearest dream?? If you aren’t sure what your dearest dream is, just take a look at yourself in the mirror. If you really take an honest look, it will be easy to see what is dearest to you, because you are living your dearest dream every day. The reflection you see is the product of the choices you’ve made, the daily priorities you set, and the result of what you’ve held most dear in your heart.

You may say, that your dearest dream is to be a published author, but why then have you invested thousands of hours into your xbox games? If you never write anything, then one might argue that being an author is only your second, third, fourth or maybe even your tenth dearest dream. Meanwhile, you have mastered dozens of video games and that book you wanted to write is nothing more than a lingering idea. When you look in the mirror today, you will easily see that your dearest dream is coming true.

Whatever you choose to consistently give your time and attention to every day, is your dearest dream. You get to set your own priorities. You get to make your own choices, and you get to invest your time into whatever you decide is most dear to you. So, I ask again, what is your dearest dream??

When I look into the mirror, I see that my first priority is my marketing career. The first thing I do, when I wake up every single day, is spend two hours writing a blog about marketing cookies. Then, I go to work every day and help big companies with their marketing. Once or twice a month, I travel across the country to speak at conferences about marketing. I’ve written two books about marketing, I’ve been serving on the board for the American Marketing Association (AMA) in Boston for six years and was just elected for my first three-year term on the International Board of Directors for the AMA. There is no way that I could misinterpret my dearest dream.

Once you’ve identified your dearest dream, the next question you must ask yourself is, Do I want the xbox or marketing to be my dearest dream? Shouldn’t my children be my dearest dream? What about my love for acting, painting, or music? What is my highest priority? Well, my friends, you can choose anything in the world to be your dearest dream and I promise that it will most certainly come true. If you’re ever unsure, just look in the mirror.

[Today’s fortune was inspired by Bob Dennis of May’s Landing, NJ. Bob served our country in the coast guard for many years, protecting our shores and saving lives. I first met Bob in the ninth grade, where we attended a tiny one-room high school in Attleboro, MA. In fact, we graduated together, in a senior class of just three. It has been a long while since I’ve seen him, but our friendship always transcends the passing of time.]
