This year, several U.S. National Parks once again will require timed entry reservations during certain periods to manage visitor numbers and protect the environment. So, to clarify the timed entry reservations are in addition to the paid entry required to enter the park.
Here are the U.S. national parks and the details of their timed entry requirements:
Acadia National Park
Requires vehicle reservations to drive up Cadillac Summit Road from May 24 to October 22, 2025. There are two types of reservations: Sunrise and Daytime, with each reservation costing $6 per vehicle. Cadillac Summit Road reservations can be made starting 90 days in advance for 30% of the tickets, and the remaining 70% are released 2 days in advance at 10 a.m. EST.
Arches National Park
Timed entry reservations are needed for all vehicles entering between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. from April 1 to July 6 and from August 28 to October 31, 2025. Tickets cost $2, in addition to the regular vehicle entry fee.
Reservations open 3 months in advance:
April reservations open January 2, 2025.
May reservations open February 1, 2025.
June reservations open March 1, 2025.
July 1-6 reservations open April 1, 2025.
August 28-31 reservations open May 27, 2025.
September reservations open June 1, 2025.
October reservations open July 1, 2025.
Glacier National Park
Vehicle reservations are required for the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road and North Fork from June 13 to September 28, 2025, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations for Going-to-the-Sun Road and North Fork opened on February 12, 2025, for dates starting June 13 to September 28, 2025. Additional reservations are available for next-day entry, released at 7 p.m. MDT starting June 12, 2025.
Haleakalā National Park
Reservations are required for vehicles entering between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. for sunrise viewing, year-round. The reservation fee is $1 per vehicle. Sunrise Summit Permits can be purchased starting 60 days in advance, with additional permits released 2 days in advance.
Mount Rainier National Park
Timed entry reservations are required for the Paradise Corridor from May 24 to September 2, 2025, and for the Sunrise Corridor from July 3 to September 2, 2025, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. The cost per reservation is $2. Timed entry reservations for both the Paradise and Sunrise Corridors can be made approximately 3 months in advance, starting:
Paradise Corridor: February 21, 2025 (for May 24 to September 2, 2025).
Sunrise Corridor: April 1, 2025 (for July 3 to September 2, 2025).
Rocky Mountain National Park
There are two types of timed entry permits starting May 23, 2025:
One for the Bear Lake Road Corridor from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., which also allows access to the rest of the park.
Another for the rest of the park (excluding Bear Lake Road) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both have a $2 processing fee.
Reservations can be made starting:
May 23, 2025, for all of June and part of July.
June 1, 2025, for the rest of July and August.
July 1, 2025, for September.
August 1, 2025, for October.
Yosemite National Park
During peak seasons in 2025 (exact dates TBD), timed entry or reservations will likely be required, similar to previous years, for driving into Yosemite Valley or for specific activities. Although specific dates for 2025 are not yet announced, typically half of the reservations for peak times are available in early January, with the rest released seven days before the arrival date.
Zion National Park
Requires a permit for hiking Angels Landing in 2025, with a lottery system for obtaining these permits. The permit application costs $6, and each permit is $3 per person. For the Angels Landing hike, the lottery for permits is on a rolling basis with applications typically opening:
3 months in advance for the seasonal lottery.
2 days in advance for the daily lottery.
These reservations can generally be made through Recreation.gov, and it’s important to plan and book well in advance due to high demand. Remember, these reservations are in addition to any park entry fees unless specified otherwise. These are the dates when reservations begin to be available, and due to high demand, securing a spot early is strongly recommended.
