Tarpon Springs, FL (i-newswire) June 25, 2012 — Kentucky Pastor James D. Smith was raised by a man that, at first, he wanted nothing to do with. A carpenter named Richard became James’ step father at a young age, and over time he won over his young son. In the process Richard used his carpentry skills to teach James vital life lessons.

“I wrote my book for anyone who ever sets out to build something special,” explained author James Smith. “Everyone is building something in life but most of us could use a little help.  This book is meant to share a little help.”

The story of James’ upbringing, entitled “The House that Richard Built: Lessons Learned as a Carpenter’s Son,” is now available for the popular Kindle eReader and it can be downloaded free for three days, starting Monday, June 25. It is available exclusively through Amazon.com for the Kindle eReader, Kindle App, and online through the Kindle Cloud.

“I read this book on a coast-to-coast flight,” explained Rich Nilsen, President of All Star Press.  “My goal is to publish books that can change lives. I was so impressed with the numerous life lessons that Richard taught his step son James that I had to publish this book.”

We are all carpenters; we are all building something. We are building families, marriages, careers, relationships, and legacies. The question for all of us is “do we have the right type of tools and instruction to build the life we want?” You can learn about these power tools for life in the new e-book “The House that Richard Built” by author James D. Smith.

Our lives are always under construction. This book is the power tool you need to ensure that you build an awesome house, not just for you but also for your friends and loved ones. Author James Smith learned the lessons that he shares in this book by working with Richard, his stepfather, as a young man. In his life, James has been a soldier, a high school teacher, a college instructor, a trainer, and a graduate Bible student. He combines his varied life experiences and the skills of carpentry with biblical wisdom in a way that readers will find both useful and refreshing.

“In the Book of Jeremiah, God has told us that He has plans for us: plans to prosper us, plans to give us hope and a future,” explained Smith.

With sincerity and openness about his own life mistakes, James helps his readers identify and apply life lessons that will help them build the life that God has planned.

“The House that Richard Built” takes readers on a life-changing journey into the world of a master carpenter. Some of the things you will learn in this powerful life guide: What it means to: measure twice and cut once, what to do when the roof comes crashing down, how to ensure you’re building on the right foundation, how to focus so you hit the nails, and more.

“The House that Richard Built: Lessons Learned as a Carpenter’s Son” is available free through the Amazon.com Kindle store Monday through Wednesday of this week.

According to The Washington Post, the centennial anniversary of the oceanliner Titanic’s sinking has returned a classic account of the famous tragedy to the best-seller lists.

StoryBundle to offer ebook bundle subscriptions

Netflix for ebooks? Lifehacker editor Jason Chen has left Gawker Media to launch an e-bookstore called StoryBundle, which is expected to begin in early Spring.

Chen will sell bundles of e-books under a pay-what-you-want plan. He imagines the average price of a bundle will be around $5 in most cases. He is modeling his new company, StoryBundle, after “Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX), Rdio, Steam and indie game bundles”—particularly Humble Bundle for games—that “deliver content without having a bunch of physical stores get in the way.” Chen believes “making things easy to buy, easy to get and easy to consume will be the key to StoryBundle’s success.”

Authors participating in StoryBundle would share in the price of the books selected in the ebook bundle.

School Libraries adding more e-books

School libraries ebooksThe number of school libraries building electronic stacks is increasing in the past few years.

A 2011 survey by the School Library Journal found that 31 percent had e-books in their collections. But 63 percent of those surveyed said they couldn’t afford to buy digital books.

On a recent afternoon, 9-year-old Josh Hezel and his classmates were in the library at Long Elementary.

A generation ago, Hezel and the others might have stopped by a shelf of recommended books, or searched on his own in the card catalog. Instead, he and his classmates sat down with some of the school’s new e-readers. The book titles flew by on a digital screen as the boy scrolled through, stopping at one that caught his eye.

“I think librarians are in favor of anything that gets students reading,” said Margaret Sullivan, regional director for the Missouri Association of School Libraries and president of St. Louis Suburban School Librarians Association. “What we just want to make sure is that every student has access to technology, because some students might not have that at home.”

eBooks Flying High in Korea

The Korean e-book market grew more than five times last year. It stood at an estimated 10 billion won, which is equivalent to 9 million US dollars in 2010, but that number jumped to a staggering 45 million US dollars last year.

“I wanted to read books while I commute, but paper books are too heavy to carry, and I sometimes forgot to bring them with me. Smart phones are too small to read on. But with an e-book reader, I can read many books whenever I want.” – Korean student

And ebooks sales in Korean are expected to at least double, or even triple this year if analysts are correct.
